The Ketchikan Construction Academy strives to offer training to the widest possible group of individuals who meet a variety of qualifications.
In order for an individual to qualify for the Ketchikan Construction Academy, the following process must be complete.
KCA ORIENTATION
In order to be considered for the academy, an applicant is required to attend a mandatory orientation. Orientations will be offered during specified times and days, with enough variety for applicants to choose a time that fits his/her schedule. Individual appointments can be made with the Ketchikan Job Center to review the orientation materials.
KCA APPLICATION & RESUME
A complete application and up-to-date resume must be submitted as part of the application process. Applicants must have a High School Diploma or GED Diploma in order to qualify for the academy. A copy of the diploma must be available if an interview is granted.
KETYTRAIN MATH & ENGLISH ASSESSMENTS
An applicant must complete the KeyTrain Math and English assessments by the application deadline.
KCA INTERVIEW
All applicants will be ranked by a selection committee consisting of a minimum of one KCA board member, one SSEABIA member and one member from the Ketchikan Job Center. Selection for interviews will be based on a point system. Interviews will be offered to applicants and will be conducted in a panel format, with a point score kept to choose the top applicants for the academy.
KCA ACCEPTANCE
Applicants will notified of acceptance into the current KCA cohort through a phone call with a follow up acceptance letter that must be signed by the applicant and returned to the KCA office by the specified date in order to be considered enrolled in the program
KCA RE-APPLICATION
Applicants not accepted into the current KCA cohort are encouraged to reapply during subsequent application periods. Non-acceptance does not disqualify an applicant from applying to future academy sessions.
KCA RE-ENTRY
We reserve the right to deny any applicant re-entry into the academy. Decisions regarding re-entry into the KCA will be made on an individual basis, and will be based on the reason the applicant was unable to complete the academy the first time."
PARTICIPATION OUTSIDE KCA
On a space available basis and at the discretion of the instructor, students may be accepted into the classes sponsored by the KCA on a fee/tuition paid basis. All UAS and KCA policies will apply to students paying full tuition.
HIGH SCHOOL APPLICANTS
High School applicants must be on track to graduate before the Academy year is completed in order to qualify for the academy. A letter from the KGBSD verifying that the student is on track for graduation must be provided if an interview is granted. The High School student must remain on track to graduate during their attendance in the Adult KCA program. To this end, the High School student and their parents must agree to provide the KCA Director with progress reports from the KGBSD. This will be accomplished through a question on the KCA application. The KCA reserves the right to terminate a High School student's participation in the Adult program if it appears that the classes are a hindrance to High School graduation.
If the High School student has taken the KeyTrain or CRC assessments as part of the High School Curriculum, the scores must be submitted with the application for KCA. In the event these scores are at the required level the applicant will not have to retest for entry into the Academy.
Recruitment flyers will be posted in the Vocational wing of Ketchikan High School, the bulletin board at Revilla High School and the bulletin board outside the counselor's offices at Kayhi for the purpose of recruiting High School Students.
