Kodiak Regional Construction Academy

The first Kodiak Regional Construction Academy training began on March 22nd at 8am at Kodiak College, with the introduction of the two instructors (one local contractor/business owner and a 30 year carpenter/Kodiak Electrical Association employee) and the NCCER/OSHA instructor.

The Kodiak College provided the facilities, in-kind and the use of their equipment. Each day began at 8.30am, with instruction from the NCCER Core text book and covered Construction Safety and Hand Tools in the first week.

The OSHA instruction was each afternoon, and Kodiak Job Center and Kodiak College staff taught Communication in the workplace in the evening. Saturday March 27, all students attended and passed First Aid / CPR instruction. The training day ended at 7 p.m.

The Kodiak Regional Construction Academy went through April 14th. Two 10 x12ft storage sheds were built. A security fence at the Kodiak Womens Resource and Crisis Center was demolished and rebuilt. Graduation on April 14th included an Employer Lunch, with local contractors and employers invited to meet the graduates and receive resumes.
