Nome CA is building our future construction workforce by focusing interest at the high school level initially. Our intent is to give students the training and skills needed through exploratory construction career investigation. We plan to use projects with real-world relevance to engage students and encourage them to pursue construction-related careers. Such projects include learning to fabricate boats while developing welding skills. These projects can be used to support fishing subsistence lifestyle activities. Additionally we plan to build cabins during our NCCER Core and Carpentry I courses. Engaging high school students in these meaningful projects is intended to give them the skills and confidence to enter construction careers after graduation.
